    Default First AR Build

Well everything is now shipped for my first AR build. Got a really good deal on an upper at http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/C...pper_Half.html

So here is my parts list:

Daniel Defense Lower Reciever Parts Kit
    CMMG-U1604 CMMG .223/5.56 AR15 M4 16" Complete Upper Half

Magpul CTR Collapsible Military Spec. Carbine Stock
Black Magpul Polymer 30rd .223 AR15/M16 PMAG Magazine

Let us know how it turns out. Seems like a good build for $880. Can't go wrong with the Magpul CTR. Great stock, have yet to get a Magpul anything that I don't like. Wish I had not swapped mine and sold it. Oh well.

Well started my build this afternoon with the following parts. Troy non free floating rails came free with the upper http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/C...pper_Half.html.

Noticed the DD kit came with a Magpul polymer trigger guard that I spent $8 on. So now have an extra. Following instructions at http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/ I got most of it done with one trip to sears to buy some punches and some new needle nose pliers. When I went to install the pistol grip could not find the selector detent. Looked for it for a long time, then gave up and put the stock on (doesn't look like it will interfere with putting the pistol grip on once I find the selector detent or buy a new one). Hindsight being 20/20 should have inventoried the parts (I did sort the springs).

Pretty happy with it so far. Still need a rear sight, sling and an optic, but the project is coming along nicely.

    Default Pics of finished product

Finished the gun, thank you Bailey Guns for the selector pin! Went shooting this evening and the rifle shot well but had a little problem with the disconnector. Thanks Hoser for diagnosing the issue! Will be back to the range this weekend.

Accessories added were a Viking tactical sling, Magpul BUIS, and GG&G fore grip. I chose an affordable for me optic which I like, Bushnell MP Trophy red dot. Will see if I love it down the line. Ergonomics are great, but I have to say I like the Vortex illuminated red dot sight picture on my buddy Chad's DD better than the inverted t.

    Well done and congrats!

Just a quick suggestion and an observation..

    1. You're BUIS is on wrong and too far forward. Turn it around and attach it at the rear most slot..

    2. Try pushing the VFG further out for better control and handling..

Other than that man... that looks great for a first build, I'm looking forward to hearing more after the next range trip.

The rifle is fully operational with about 200 rounds down the pipe. Now I need to learn to shoot it better.
