Pistol/SBR Barrel options

I'm getting ready to build a new pistol upper (eventual SBR), and am trying to weigh the value of a 7.5 inch bbl with a noveski pig (kx3) vs. going with a 10 inch bbl with a mini-compensator. I figure both options wind up to be about the same overall length, but wanted to see if there are any other key factors which put one over the other (velocity loss is one obvious consideration).


Any thoughts?

Velocity loss is all I can think of we were easily ringing steel at 300yd with my lil 7.5

You not gonna wanna run a comp on a sbr unless you like blast that pig is the way to go imo

10.5 - 11.5 " I tried a 7.5" and the only thing it was good for , was selling. AND lots o Fireball.

I'm running 10.5 for the spouse and 12.5 for my suppressed unit, both SBR's. never got in to the AR pistol scene.

Waste of time and money. While it's a nice conversation piece, that's all it is. Good thing someone somewhere was needing a kittykat upper, and silly him mentioned,I am having a hard time finding a kittykat upper.

Ask yourself. What is the purpose of the build i am doing. Something for shits n giggles, or something practical. Myself, the 7.5 isn't practical. There is also the potential for cycling issues. Now you want to do a zippy 7.5" upper, do a 22lr set up. . The one i have rocks,.

All my 7.5s have ran like a sewing machine......I have some tricks for setting them up to be reliable
I used to run them as car guns but I did my research and 5.56 sucks for car penetration so now I run a folder ak but I'm building another one for an hd role

I tried several different configurations with .223 and eventually came to the conclusion that the .223 in a short barrel was not optimum for anything. Sure, it can be done, and I got them to run, but I am much more pleased with the 300BO upper in terms of shootability and performance. I can ring gongs at 200m 1 for 1 and it works great for close stuff too. Runs from 110s to 240s with less muzzle blast and less stress (and wear) on the BCG and upper receiver. If you are sold on .223, I found that moderate 77s worked the best, but still pretty punchy. I would go with 10-12" over a 7 or 9" based on my experience. I'd go with a Noveske Pig (or just a thread protector) over a comp myself. You could go retro and try and find a Vietnam Era Colt conical. That is bascially what the Noveske Pig is anyway.

I have read with the short barrels you generally want to run light/fast rounds like the 50gr stuff so you get that fragmentation??

I am only talking about shootability and the accompanying concussion. On target performance is a whole other COW.
