Default Advice on a New BCM Upper

I'm purchasing a new 16" Mid-length Upper from BCM sometime this week, and I'm wondering if upgrading to their BCG is worth the $145.

Any experience or opinions on this?

It's not a bad price for a bcg and handle. It's not really an upgrade since the upper you're looking at doesn't include a bcg or handle.

I have the upper and the BCG, I like them a lot and replaced a Del-ton kit with them. They work well and as of yet, about 1K rounds I have had no trouble. If you are just buying a BCG for your upper you can't go too wrong with the BCM but If you don't need one and yours works, that would be your call. I can say they function well.

Personally, I'd say it doesn't make a lot of sense to buy a new, high-quality upper like that and put in a used or lesser quality BCG. If you have the extra $145, I'd say do it.

That's one thing that always bothered me at arfcom.. seems to be SOP to sell the BCG & Charging handle separately... even if they sell them used... so you don't get the bolt that's matched to the barrel

IMHO, at least the bolt should be matched to the barrel- since the lugs will wear together... I'd always keep a BCG for each upper, if you're at all concerned about accuracy.. but at the very least, a bolt for every barrel.. but then you have to disassemble the BCG when you swap uppers, and makes it easier to mix up bolts... much cleaner to keep a BCG in each upper, as long as you can afford to..

swapped bolts and/org BCGs will function, but the lugs won't be worn together.. and will have to break in all over again...

Get the BCM Bolt and carrier. Can’t go wrong with their quality.

Sorry to jump in but I was thinking of getting a Del-Ton upper so can you tell why you switched out and your impressions of the Del-ton?

I think Bowers had a DD BCG in stock for about same money...

I did the del-ton in such a way as I didn't like it. It was my first AR and I tacti-crapped the hell out of the thing, and it frankly was just heavy. I figured if I was gonna drop the money and effort to cut down the barrel or change it out, may as well just go all the way and get the new upper. And that way I could also try out the middy gas system

As of now I am a one AR kinda guy. In any event the Del-ton worked well and I enjoyed it for thousands of rounds.

I now have three BCM uppers, one pre-production lower, and two production lowers. I also have and run the BCM bcgs. You can not go wrong with them. If you run your gun hard, or know someone who runs a gun hard, or even heard of someone who runs a gun hard, the BCM bcg is for you.

It slices, it dices, it makes julian fries. And if that's not enough, it may be one of the best investments you can make with regard to reliability.

Any bcg will work. But if you want the piece of mind that comes from a good part, then buy the BCM.
