How long is the bill? 11000 pages. There is probably some line or three in that thing that I would like. Doesn't mean I like or am for the bill.

I oppose this bill completely in 100% entirety.
Having said that, there is one major thing about it I do like which could easily be implemented without the bill.
That means I am still against it.

You are starting with the ad hominems, I am saying that my personal believe is that Ridge started the thread as a debate, but over several threads it became clear that while he may not like Obama, gun control, liberals, global warming, or the price of tea in China - he did, more or less, like the bill. Arguing for a position you truly believe in doesn't make you a Devil's Advocate or a contrarian for the sake of debate. It means you are standing up for your principles. That's admirable, but let's not call it something it isn't.

That may be the case, and while I don't think the personal attacks are productive in discussion, my personal opinion is that it no longer fits what the phrase "devil's advocate" means.
He was clearly defending the policy - I followed less the ad hominem defenses.

"Devil's advocate" basically means that one is taking the opposing viewpoint, whether he/she agrees with that viewpoint or not, for the sake of discussion or debate.

I find it curious that the "devil's advocate" thread started out just that way, but over time the OP made it clear, like others have pointed out, that he was not, in fact, merely playing the devil's advocate. If I recall correctly he even made a statement to the effect that the "preexisting condition" part of O-care was one of the few things about O-care with which he agreed.

Now maybe I'm not clear in what he meant in his post above, but it sounds like the whole "preexisting" thing is taking a bite outta his ass...and his wallet. That's why I said what I said. You may not like it, tmleader, but that's what I meant. Apparently others thought it meant the same thing. The point behind my post was to be careful what you wish for.

Pre existing had nothing to do with it. My insurance was ignoring my responses to their requests, our at least failing to make it clear what they wanted. Probably trying to hold out until my plan changed and they could say it's no longer covered.

Ridge, if you truly were never in favor of the PPACA, I am happy to stand corrected on my impressions of where you stood. Likewise, if you do like it, that matters not. I work for an insurer and know plenty in favor of it.

OK, let's not be butt-hurt at me for the grudge of a discussion months back. I neither engaged in hyper-partisan nor personal attacks. Like I said, I'm happy to accept that at face value. It didn't read like that was the case at the time, however. I have no axe to grind here. $0.02
