Or you could just skip all that front hook crap and actually be able to get the stock open without sliceing your fingers.

You have to drill the front latch hole in the flat and the front trunnion. The trick with drilling that hole is that the spot you need to drill through on the front trunnion is almost exactly on the step of the trunnion-turn it upside down and you'll see what I'm talking about.I had someone weld it out a bit so it has a flat spot to drill on.In after thought I think you probably could could put a bit of jb weld on the step let it set up then drill all the jb weld needs to do is just give you a flat surface to drill on,it doesn't have any structural integrity.the spring in the pin is what really holds it stogether.
I had on one build when I was drilling my bit broke so I took one of my 1/8th diamond bur bits and drilled through it.Which also makes me think you can probably start a hole with that instead of even welding or using jb weld.

This is what I used as a print to mark out for the front latch

If you need a hand give me a pm and maybe we can get together and I can walk you through it.

End mill or a small center drill

Drill press? A center drill will work ok and if you have the rifle secured well you can use a mill.

I have a drill press, but unfortunately the head walks a bit on it and I have to try and tighten it up some.
That will have to be my next project before I really screw up something by using it the way it is.

I really wish I had the room for the mill in the T.P. That would be the cat's meow!!
