As a computer tech I've been called "lazy" and "incompetent" plus other stuff because XP support is ending. My response has been "Just because Ford quit making the Pinto and parts for it that doesn't mean you can't drive it anymore. Call Microsoft and profess your disgust about them ending support." They usually just walk away at that point.

they probable walk away because your analogy sucks. Fords break down all the time. They make their money on parts because new vehicles start out as reused parts. Ford takes broken down dodges, slaps on some new sheet metal and a rebuilt motor and sells them off as new vehicles. pure junk I tell ya!

There aren't people all over the world attempting to exploit your car and steal your identity while you're using it.

Microsoft has extended the XP end of support multiple times now. It really does need to be put out to pasture.

You can continue to use it, but every day after 4-8 you're vulnerable to exploits that will not be patched. From what I've been reading, the attacks are ready to be launched beginning 4-9.

Office 2003 also goes out of support on 4-8.

You could not be more wrong. A Dodge would be nothing but rust.

I'm good with M$ ending product support after a reasonable point in time. What I have a problem with is they will never put their older, unsupported software under a public license. DOS as well as many other viable OSs would still be viable platforms if the public was allowed to Open Source them. There are plenty of people around the world who would love to get their hands on the source code for these OSs and that would give us more choices.

They provide enterprise customers with downgrade rights to older operating systems/software and the ability to pay significantly for customized support for it. It's their intellectual property. I'm not going to hold that against them.

Auto updates...LOL. I update my GPU drivers manually through Nvidia software, update plugins to my browser as needed, and update my software at my discretion. But OS auto updates are for sh*t. I haven't updated Windows in quite some time.
