I'm going to stick with my gut on this one and say Iranians are responsible, but it's unknown whether the plane had enough fuel to make it as far as Iran.
Perhaps, if as some experts have proposed, they killed all on-board based on the elevation maneuvers? Perhaps they then dumped the bodies over the ocean? That's what, 35k-40k pounds? Would there then be enough fuel to make that trip?
