I thought striker fired guns had to have the trigger pulled to give enough oomph to pop the primer?

This would not be possible in say a glock because yes the trigger cocks the striker.

Pistols such as a xd and apparently this thing are single action with an internal hammer (striker)

No hammer in the XD. It's striker fired like the Glock. The only difference is the striker is fully cocked on the XD.
