I found a couple of bags of tubes at Brass Armadillo, my friend bought them all. Maybe check antique row on South Broadway.
This place is freaking awesome. It's where I picked up my Kristen pipe for only $20 the other day. Also, there are about 10 bayonets in case #391.

Different tubes can "color" the music in different ways.

See it turns out you can take something called a substrate, made out of things like silicon or germanium... then you can dope it with focused energy, and through quantum mechanics and a tunneling electron phenomenon you can have this magical device. It works kind of like a couple of vacuum tubes put together, costs a fraction to purchase, and has a factor of 1000 greater noise, environment and power fluctuation resistance.
Nothing like the hum of a receiver warming up, the glow illuminating the wall behind it. Then putting something on the turntable ,sss turntable, sss, turntable, sss, turntable.................

You'll never git it. With transistors you'll never get to appreciate the quality that tubes bring to music... The distortion, the non-linearity, the 60Hz hum. All lacking with transistors.

A little off topic, my father in law had a bunch of old tubes. When he passed we sold them all for a lot of cash.

Did some looking on their website, last night. Going to try and make a trip down there next week.

I grew up with tube TVs. Used to watch the TV repairman test the tubes. Had a tube reel-to-reel (forget the brand). That thing weighed a ton but made pretty good recordings.

Can you take a vacuum tube up Chinaman Gulch? Didn't think so.
