Not my actual hand or may actual springs, but for effect, it's the same crummy job for me today. Door has been down for nearly two weeks now due to travel and obtaining parts. A*holes locally won't supply parts without installing.

Those things are deadly in untrained hands. I about broke my sternum taking a 3/4" socket wrench to the chest trying to remove mine once.

But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.

    Very true.
I fixed a simple one (the metal wires on spring tension) with careful advice from Home Depot guys. They are great! (Lowes employees are great too)

Any size ice coffee is $1 this month (June).
Next time, I will ask them for less cream. It was little too sweet for a coffee. It tasted like a shake.

Most of the injuries are caused from folks not realizing they're wound up with a bit of tension. With the right tools and knowledge, it's very manageable. I do them almost monthly on trucks and trailers and have done a few garage doors. As Rooski stated, knowledge is key.

You're correct about "untrained," in a way. More like no common sense and safety in mind. Wrong tool. You're lucky to have avoided serious injury.

HD and Lowes sucks. They don't sell any torsion spring door parts cause some doofus might (and many have) hurt themselves.

And there's your answer. Correct tools and knowledge.

FWIW, I have replaced many torsion springs without incident using the proper tools and a little common sense. In this case, I have a clopay door setup with the EZ Set springs and it's pretty much almost impossible to hurt yourself unless you just flat out don't know lefty loosey, righty tighty. Sad fact is that while HD will sell you a DIY door, they will not stock or sell you the springs OR cables. THAT one really pissed me off. It's a fucking cable you douche nozzle. I'm not going to hang myself with it. The worst part is sending the wife over for a cable and them giving her an tension spring cable set that 1 - is smaller and holds less weight, and 2. doesn't have the right ends on it. How safe is that you dumbfuck big box employee?

P.S. If anyone needs to order door parts. DDM Garage Doors was great and it was a piece of cake to get BETTER than factory springs all setup with cones, spacers, and ready to install. If it wasn't for finding that frayed cable after I ordered online, I would have had it all done in about an hour.
