Computer problems...

Anyone know how to fix a computer that keeps disconnecting from the internet? It will keep connected to the router, but lose internet. This is the only machine in the house that does this. It doesn't restart itself and reconnect automatically either, I have to go in and manually disconnect, and then reconnect. This is a massive pain in the ass currently because I am trying to download Autodesk, and it keeps cutting off...... I'm about to stab this computer with a big knife.............. Help?

Your PC is loosing the ip address somehow. Might also be a problem with the router, assigning IP adresses out of range or a bad DHCP assignment. You may want to try to configure the router to assign a fixed IP address using the pc's MAC address.

Generally (for IPV4), the system used is called "DHCP", and works, broadly, as follows.

• The router runs a "DHCP Server", which has a table with IP's which can be used.
• Each computer makes a DHCP request, which is basically a packet (with its MAC address) sent on the network saying "What IP can I have ?"
• The router looks at the packet received and says here is your IP address, gateway, DNS server [and anything else]
• The computer then configures itself.

The MAC address can be used by the DHCP server table to make sure the machine gets the same IP address, if available each time.

Might also be that your network interface is flaky on that computer. Try a different network card or try a usb ethernet adapter.

Try upgrading to the latest driver for your network card, I am sure you can find them on the make of the desktop or laptop, if you built it from scratch, look for the motherboard make and download the latest NiC drivers, ( Network card )

If that does not work, try running your antivirus and maleware bytes scanner, there is a few out there that will do this to your computer.

Like Circuits said, try another network cable, if does not fix the issue, try using a usb network adapter, if it's a laptop then try the wireless instead of the network cable.

All else fails, fresh image to that pc xD or kill it with fire

To quote the IT Crowd, did you try turning it off and on again? I.e., your PC, cable modem, and router. Also, make sure the cable modem and router are placed in a spot with good air flow as they tend to run hot and overheating devices will get flaky.

spend $10 and get a new nic, put it in and see if your problem is fixed. If not, return for your money and get out the big knife.

Ok, so my PC is being stupid... and I need to nail down a specific IP for it.... How do I do that?

I've already tried uninstalling, and reinstalling the wireless card's software. It didn't work. I might have to try a network cable though... This is on my laptop that is literally 4 feet away from the router.

I have tried everything my limited experience with computers has allowed. I thought it worked (it hasn't done it as much after redownloading the firmware/software for the internal card, but every time I try a lengthy download, it cuts off again. I've ran Norton, Kaspersky, and Malwarebytes on this piece of shit (it's 3 weeks old) and nothing has worked. I even held my Samsung tablet that got knifed in front of it to try to scare it into working, and even that didn't work...... I'm at a loss.

Do you know how to connect to your router? If not, open a browser window and type 192.168.1.1 then press enter. You should get a login page for the router. Use your credentials, and go to the wireless setup menu. There should be something that will allow you to assign or reserve an ip address.

Bad Wireless card in the laptop....


Had a mac that would do that . made me crazy till i changed the card out.
