So what is the end game then for killing off everyone under you? Serious question, because I think power is a far more universal motivator than murder.

They don't kill off everyone, just the people who pose a threat. They can consolidate power better and faster with the opposition dead. A good place to start would be the history of Lenin, Stalin, Mao, etc, don't need to read too much to get the gist of it.

There are. However with this one EVERYONE they have come in contact with, comes forward. You rule out passengers who were on same plane, train, automobile. This gives one a good idea of their circle of friends, so to speak. Under the guise of ebola / quarantine of patients. No one's the wiser when they don't recover.
