    Default CCW on Amtrak

Posting this for a buddy. He's traveling from Grand-junction, CO to Denver. It's actually the California Zephyr (amtrak). He does have a CO CCW. We just don't know if they allow CCW or does he have to check his weapon in with his luggage? Any help would be great!

However If you can check bags to your destination you can have your firearm checked.

Procedures are similar to Airlines. My dad travels by train lots and his CCW handgun goes with him this way.

Oh yes, the feds don't want anybody hijacking a train and ramming it into the Statue of Liberty or Mt Rushmore or some other important landmark. Can you imagine the damage a loaded train could do to lady Liberty.

Very few AMTRAK stations offer bag checking service. In the AMTRAK passenger rules, it plainly shows NO dangerous weapons which even includes knives unless in checked baggage.
The RR cops do make spot checks with dogs but that's USUALLY for drugs.

Amtrack is fed owned making it federal property. Their trains, their rules.

Checked baggage only, you need to give them at least 24 hours notice if you intend to check a firearm as well.

I traveled on Amtrak a few months ago. Follow O2's link. You need to make a "Reservation" for a firearm 24hrs in advance or no Bueno. After your firearm is checked, ironically, there's was no security check for anything. NOTHING! So dumb.
