Need a new rotational period on our planet's axis for that. A new orbit would affect how long our year is.

Good point, I don't want to affect our life expectancy.

Stu, the good news is I heard of a drug being tested that will eliminate the effects of no sleep. Pretty soon, we won't need to sleep and won't need 30 hours in a day. Yahoo!

    But I like sleeping. That's where I'm a Pirate.

    Loose it!

I had always heard it was for the farmers/ranchers, so they could adjust to the shorter days. I'm pretty sure they could figure out when to get up in the morning. They are smart that way.

Later, I heard it was so the kids didn't have to stand at the bus stop in the dark. Who stands at the bus stop anymore? They are sitting in the parents warm car.

My vote for a new orbit would be adjust to 30 hrs on Sat and Sun only. The rest of the week can stay the same.

I know, but in my dreams I'm a Pirate. There are a few (very few) differences between me and Ralph Wiggum. I did bend my wookie once though.

What's with the two choices for getting rid of it? Why not just split the difference and call it a day? Seems like a full hour isn't granular enough for both seasons so just split it in half, add 30min back and never change the clocks again.

After all, how many Americans are hurt or killed each year climbing ladders twice a year to set their clocks? What about all the orphaned children? Who'll think o' da chirrens?!?

I'd be ok with that, if and only if the work-day remained less than 10 of those hours.

Personally, I really like Daylight Saving time because I spend most of my time outside during the evenings from May through Halloween. The extra hour I get of daylight after I get home from work is extremely helpful especially when I am cutting, splitting, and stacking my wood in the fall. I absolutely hate the winter months when it is dark in the evening and I feel confined to the house; I totally get cabin fever come February.
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
