I have a PTR91KF that I bought a while back. It's one of the newer AW serial numbered guns that is said to have shallow flutes.
I haven't fired it yet, but from what I'm
reading, a significant number of rifles in this serial number range are very picky about what ammo they run on, and a good number of them choke on surplus ammo after less than a mag.
This is not what I wanted. I don't need a finicky princess target rifle that only puts out if you feed it lobster and caviar. I want a rifle that I can depend on to work with any ammo I stuff into the mag. I have piles of surplus 308 and I expect my rifles to be able to use it. I thought PTR was good to go, but I guess I should have done more research.
Lately I've had very little patience with problem guns. I came very close to just unloading it, but I decided that I have too much into the rifle, hensoldt, collapsible stock, mags, and spare parts to just wash my hands of this one. So, I'm going to stick with it and do what it takes to make it work.
How involved is it to change the barrel on a rifle such as this? Since the consensus seems to be that the chamber and flutes PTR spec'd on their new barrels is the problem I figure I could just have a HK contract barrel pressed in and be GTG.
