I grew up on the other side of that lake, I remember hitting the water in July and the surface temps were about 50* F. Or you could swim in the water next to Palisade's outlet pipe and it was about 80*.

He's already excited, his mom and dad were both Navy so he already has a list of his general orders, copy of the lyrics for the Navy song, ranks and insignia, etc. He figured he needed to carry on the military tradition through his mom's side of the family, her dad and uncles were Army in Vietnam, her grandfather was Army in WWII, and there is military service going back to the Civil War. Only bad thing for me is now I'll have 2 people to rub it in every year when Army gets crushed by Navy.

Great Mistakes! I went to boot around the same time. I was there in august of '99. Still remember singing "Anchors Aweigh" going through that damn tunnel. Sounds like he will have a leg up on the other recruits with two Navy parents. He may be RPOC if he wants the responsibility (and the punishment lol).

This is awesome. What a smart move- he'll have a lot of excellent opportunities open to him.

Congrats to him! I still remember all the things the Navy taught me in boot; how to fold skivvies precisely using a ball point pen, how to fold t-shirts precisely using a ball point pen, how to iron military creases into utilities and how to smuggle the little peanut butter cups back to my rack.

Providing he's not in aviation. The advancement is less than .5% of those testing for each P.O. ranking.

I didn't know that. Then again, I was speaking of opportunities such as a steady job, travel, learning skills that will help him in civilian life, and so on.

Aviation is bad but it wasn't that bad for most of the rates. The flyers, AW variants, have been considerably lower than the aviation maintenance rates. They only advanced two of 203 AWS2s to AWS1 this last go round.

He isn't going into aviation, even though he wanted to. He is a GSM from this https://www.navycs.com/navy-jobs/gas...e-systems.html
