I'm sure this will come out Davsel. She is from a long line of law enforcement ( 5 generations I think ) so it's a little hard to believe that as a States Attorney she would openly lie to bring charges. Doing so would would likely torpedo her career quickly. There is another thing to consider, how would the officers know that he had a warrent from just looking at him? I am gonna sit back and try to watch this from a factual standpoint. It looks like his court date was scheduled on 6/23/15. I don't think this case is about the defendants past as much it's about what occurred during the chain of events leading up to his arrest and detainment. I also think she should be looking to prosecute any and all who destroyed property during the riots. That behavior can never be tolerated.

Not saying there is anything regarding her conviction as the State Attorney, especially with that long a line in the family. However it's those behind the scenes area, as with anything that might raise questions.

IMO, her list of charges was done to have the ability to readjust the final charge as necessary, to prove "Beyond A reasonable Doubt" Perhaps learning from the Zimmerman Acquittal. Had the DA in that one sought a lesser charge of manslaughter, (Again IMO) Zimmerman would have served time. The push for Murder put the burden of proof on the state, which it failed to do.

In other news. The Policy's of the BPD reflects on it's higher ups / politics. Having a D run city for some time, they (politicians) are scrambling to CYA. Not to mention Al Charlatan has now become the spokesman for her honor da mayor.

A Baltimore police organization called for the chief prosecutor to step down from the Freddie Gray investigation on Friday because of her political links to the lawyer representing the dead man's family....

... Signed by the organization's president, Gene Ryan, the letter read: 'While I have the utmost respect for you and your office, I have very deep concerns about the many conflicts of interest presented by your office conducting an investigation in this case.'

The Gray family lawyer, Billy Murphy, was a big campaign donor to Marilyn Mosby last year when she ran for State's Attorney, donating the maximum individual amount allowed, $4,000, in June. Murphy was also on Mosby's transition team after the election and has been described as a 'mentor' to her.

The Supreme Court, and Maryland Courts have ruled that an unprovoked flight (running) is grounds for suspicion that a crime has been committed, and makes it legal for the cops to give chase, and stop you. Since this happened in a high crime area, the cops had all the right according to Maryland law to chase him, stop him for questioning, and to frisk him... without more though, there can't be an arrest. However, the guy had a pocket knife on him, and that was the charge that all of this has happened on, the knife he was carrying was said to be a switchblade "spring assisted knife" which is illegal.

So, the guy saw the cops and ran... cops gave chase, stopped him, frisked him and found the knife, and decided to take him in on the knife charge. The rest is now in the news-ish... Still need to figure out when the neck break happened.

I think this was part of the problem. As it was stated, it was a utility knife which was legal, not a switchblade. It appears there were some inconsistencies with what was reported and what actually happened. I think the idea of him breaking his own neck while hog tied raised some doubts as well. Oh well, it's hard to ever know what actually happened with the varying media outlets. Hopefully justice will prevail in any case.

Well put. She maybe aiming high on charges hoping for a middle ground. The severity of the charges may also get them to roll on eachother for a deal. Crappy situation all the way around. No winners here.

Oh c'mon Ridge. You presented reddit as if the fact you couldn't find this story on reddit meant it was questionable. That's just freaking laughable.

As far as the charges go, I'm keeping an open mind about the cop possibly having done something wrong -- there was a question this morning about an additional stop by the van that hadn't been reported -- but the charges being brought the way they were and as fast as they were and the mayor's prejudicial comments about three black women getting justice were definitely pure racist politics. I will give great credit to Baltimore cops for going out and doing their job tonight and tomorrow after being hung out to dry like this.

What I do have a comment on is an apparent MAJOR conflict of interest evolving the State Attorney Mosby. It's being reported the Gray's family attorney was her largest campaign donor last year. He also worked on Mosby's transition team and was her mentor.

How is the donation a MAJOR conflict exactly? It was only four, or five thousand dollars (depending on which source you provided). So... she can't be involved in anything if it concerns one of the thousands of people that could have donated to her? What if someone donated $20? Would that be an amount to question? This argument seems petty, and just one to try to throw a wrench in the plans. It reminds me of the deflated football thing... Also, where does it say that the attorney was the largest donor? Was the attorney the only person to give the limit amount of four, or five thousand?
