Collectors Gun Show

Went to the Collectors Gun Show today; I haven't seen so many 1850s-1890s assault rifles in ages. Plenty of Civil War battle rifles and pistols also. I was expecting to see more WWI/WWII displays, but they were actually fewer. Quite impressed with the displays, and overall pleased to see the forgotten oldies.

Yes, I went too. Soooo much to look at and learn. I heard that Stuart tank tore the crap out of the carpet when they off loaded it. Well worth the price to see some awesome displays like the huge group of miniature weapons, wow.

I have a S&W 2nd Model .44spl, 6.5" barrel, lanyard ring, nickel finish I wanted to take to get a good idea on value. Unfortunately after a rough night not feeling well and wanting to get the lawn mowed before any rain I had to pass. This gun was shipped in Feb. 1925, returned for unknown reason to S&W also in 1925 and again in 1957 for a factory refinish of the original nickel.

Missed this show last year and now here I am missing it again this year, damn!

Post it up on the smith-wessonforum.com, along with some pictures and you can get a good sense on value.

Do the grips number to the serial number of the revolver?
Any rework/refinishing stamps under the grips? Assuming by the history you provided that there are or you have had it lettered by S&W.

Nickel finish is pretty rare so that is a plus.

I went to one a few years back. Man, it took me the whole day to walk through the hall. So many pristine classic firearms there. It was like, look at a table and OH MY GOD! then the next one - OH MY GOD! And on and on all day. My feet were hurting by the end of the day, I'm glad I was off work on the Monday after.

Smith & Wesson was the featured make at that one and one table had such a collection of the Model 29 and predecessors you wouldn't believe.

Its a great show for seeing interesting stuff - very little elk jerky and such crap. But careful on pricing and some vendors are not the experts that they make out to be. Saw a K11 mismarked as a K31 and priced at two-thirds is actual value. Sadly, didn't have any business buying myself another Swiss straightpull as much as I wanted it.

I was there a little after 11AM Sunday, about a third of the tables had already left. Felt like I was jogging to get through before it was empty. By 2PM about two thirds were closed and gone. Wish they would do this show at least twice a year. I did manage to sell my 1940 S&W British purchase pre Victory revolver.
