Default One good, one bad... Accessories

So I wanted to make a new forum for the purpose of getting personal/professional opinions on "GOOD" and "BAD" accessories. I am doing this because I am still lining up the accessories I want to use and have a few in mind already but I want to learn more about what is a good product and a crappy product. Okay, now what do you think about on OPTICS, LIGHT/LASER, and FOREGRIP/BIPOD? List your GOOD company and product as well as BAD company and product in your own personal/professional opinion. Please list reason for each company and product also. Hit it!!

(Thanks to all those who participate)

You mean forums like these: Guns and Gear Reviews and Dealer and Range Reviews ?

Great idea, but lets not duplicate things that already exist, causing the staff to have to move things around.

Actually I looked through those forums. I saw several stock, rails, holster, etc etc reviews and stuff but nothing really definitive on optics, light/laser, and foregrip/bipod. In looking for a more personal touch that I can read and reference to. If you want me to move this forum into that subforum I can but still seeking these personal/professional opinions out on these accessories regardless.

I figured all of it combined into one thread would be a great reference.

One thread is a pain to go through, or you meant a forum section.

Either way, while we are a decent sized forum, if you are trying to research, you are better off going just online and finding either the mega forums or other reviews. (Read multiple, take the glowing reviews with grain of salt, pay attention to specifically what the negative ones say.)

Also if you go to the evil similiarly named big forum, keep in mind that you run into keyboard commando weekend warriors that either pretend they own stuff, or just have too much disposable income. In turn known for kinda arrogant if it's not x, it aint shit mentality. (Doesn't matter if a person is a rare time shooter only hunting paper, you can't operate bro if it aint name brand y.)

Unless asking about something mega high production popular (like an aimpoint), find a decent chance no ones even tried it. And if it's something like an aimpoint, this forums not going to add much new to whats widely known.

EDIT: Went back and saw you're knew and don't know much. The gun parts industry is as bad or worse than car accessories. Youll see a lot of stupid shit marketed as must have awesomenss, there are boutique high end segments. (Hello 3k 1911's), etc. Big thing is decide what you want to do and go from there. Please dont say "home defense and 800 yard shots and a little hunting....".

My quick and dirty one sentence for someone new on a budget that isn't trying to deploy to a 3rd world country. Optics Primary Arms/Vortex. The AR itself, dont fall into thinking you need a LWRC/Daniel Defence or else it's going to explode/fall apart. These days many good more budget brands exist that are more than capable. (M&P, CMMG, PSA, many others I forget) If you don't know what to do, just get a generic 16 inch threaded barrel ar, longer handguard imo but something keymod/mlock and only add rails for what you need. Don't get accessory crazy. Maybe a handstop/AFG and a optic is all you really need. I'm a sucker for interesting compensator/brakes and threaded leaves you option of suppressed in future.

Good call- I forgot about the optics forum.

Each of the existing forums meets the needs of what you're looking for, and will only improve as those with the gear add their reviews. I also agree with Fitz in that combining every section for reviews into one would make too much of a mess for folks looking for specific information. Could we combine them into their own sub-forums in a new gear review centric forum, yes. Will we? Unlikely as most of us are happy with the current configuration. There's a certain logic to how it's currently organized.

Now, that said, I think most members of the site appreciate fellow members taking an interest in improving the site through suggestions. Sometimes those suggests are ideas many of us will embrace, sometimes they are not. What I'm trying to say is to not let getting shut down this time keep you from suggesting something else in the future.

I don't mean like that I also agree with that. I meant just a personal/professional opinion on one good accessory and one bad accessory on each front from each member. It's not mandatory I just thought we might get some good stuff on here for noobs like myself.

Such a thing is always encouraged, but most of our members either don't have the time or the inclination to do that.

I've got a couple of accessories that I've been meaning to post reviews on but haven't taken the time to do so. Perhaps this thread will be the motivation I needed.

Maybe this is a good reminder for people to actually write up product reviews (and to put them in the reviews section). I just saw a holster review in the ccw forum that should probably go in the gear reviews section.

I haven't written any because I don't have any operational experience with gear like some of our door kickers, but that's a lame excuse. Most folks aren't looking for door-kicking insight to a holster, bipod, or red dot.

ETA: beat me to it, Ginsue.
