You must be bursting with pride! Congratulations to him for making it through.

Thanks everyone! We got to sign him out for liberty on Saturday and Sunday after he checked into A school. Saturday we went down to Chicago and went to Sears Tower and the Navy pier and did a lake shore tour. He got his first taste of a real deep dish pizza and enjoyed the skyline from the river taxi. Sunday we took him to Michigan to visit with my family, which was a little boring for him outside of the card and money my grandmother gave him. He's already getting study materials from others in his A school that are a class ahead of him as he wants to qualify for C school right after. His first quarterdeck watch starts this evening, so that will be a change for him. I also noticed they have a lot more freedom than when I went through AIT in 98.

Most 'A' schools operate on a phased liberty system. When I was fresh out of boot in Aircrew school on phase 'A' I wasn't allowed to have any civvies or any electronics other than an alarm clock and digital watch.

He already has his cell phone and tablet. He can get an electronics chit to have a tv and game console in his room at any time. They just have the chit so the serial numbers and descriptions are documented in case of theft. Only restrictions are electronics can't be used during duty hours. So no phones or tablets at the school house, but once they've had dinner and are off duty they can use what ever they want. Not to mention the huge TV with cable, pool tables and 5 arcade games in the ship. I'm seriously jealous of what they get there.

Things have gotten much better than they were 8 years ago. Although there is something to be said about sneaking in a stripper to a run down barracks and hiding her in a locker during a surprise health and comfort. We didn't have big TVs but we did have that.
