Default Local Story Says One Can Easily Convert to Full Auto

Gun accessories make semi-automatic guns shoot like machine guns

    http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news...e-machine-guns

Under federal law, it's illegal to alter your gun to make it fully automatic but Denver7 has learned devices online do nearly the same thing and they're perfectly legal.

Slide Fire is a company that makes after market accessories for an AR-15 and an AK-47. For $299, gun enthusiasts can purchase the device that according to the company's website, "lets shooters safely and accurately bump fire their rifles without compromising safety and accuracy."
The piece implies that the addition of the Slide Fire stock makes a gun full auto. Obviously this makes scary assault rifles more scary and assualty and we must ban them now!

It's been a long time since I've seen this level of blatant dishonesty in print. And they wonder why we won't have a conversation?

I don't know what was dishonest about the article, but it did specifically indicate that bump firing is "safe," so I don't know what they're worried about.

The piece implies that anyone with an AR/AK and $300 can legally go full auto--that is not true. The language confuses bump firing with full auto which the BATF has ruled numerous times is not full auto and does not convert the weapon.

My biggest question on the article is what does it have to do with the California shooting-NOTHING !!!
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to Fight, he'll just kill you.

I just read the article and I'm actually impressed. I didn't see any false or misleading information in the article. And it looks like they even quoted some people who actually work in the firearms business.

I'm sure the motive behind the article is sinister and intended to point out how easily these firearms can be made more "dangerous" but as far as the content of the article I found it pretty accurate.

So you believe that a Slide Fire stock is "nearly the same thing" as full auto?

Having played with both (M16A2, M249, and bump fire), I completely disagree. I think the article is trying to bridge semi-auto rifles and "machine guns" to nullify the "AR-15 is not an assault rifle" argument.

Like StagLefty said, the article has jack shit to do with the CA shooting. But it would have everything to do with building support for a ban on semi-autos.
