It sure is nice to have read the book first. This story is convoluted enough to make it confusing even having read the book.

The whole sister/step-sister thing is completely inconsequential. Minor made up character to further the plot.

I can't get past the premise of this book. The idea is supposed to be that the US won, but no one knows. How do you win a war but still let the other side conquer you?

It and other shows, off the major 3 networks, would never play on "commercial" t.v The main reason is the General Public's short attention span. IF it's not wrapped up in 30 - 60 minutes they lose interest.
Reason #2.... how can they watch a show that doesn't require them Texting who to vote off or save for next weeks episode.
There are very few shows on the main networks that I find interesting but I do like a lot of what's on cable these days, especially the SyFy channel. Amazon also has some good shows out right now.

Never read the book. Loved watching the first season. Yes media does have something to do with the propaganda but I think there is something hinting at someone's will is so strong to alter reality for everyone else which is what I got out of the last episode unless I am understanding the plot line wrong.

We don't have Amazon Prime so I haven't had a chance to see it but I'd like to. Read the book probably 35 years ago though, and liked it.

What's funny is that I had no idea this was being made. So I was on Yahoo one day and saw one of those "teaser" ads that said something like "Imagine what the US would be like if we lost WWII" and my first thought was "Huh, that's interesting. Kind of sounds like the plot to "The Man in the High Castle."
