The pictures the media outlets always use when talking about "assault rifles" or AR-15s or whatever always seem to be the strangest configurations I've ever seen. Who puts a KX3 on the end of a 16" barrel?

According to The Hill, Cicilline said, “Assault weapons are designed for the sole purpose of killing as many people as quickly as possible. We need to do everything we can to reduce the toll of gun violence by keeping these weapons out of our communities.”
"Politicians are designed for the sole purpose of killing liberty as quickly as possible through lies and deception. We need to do everything we can to reduce the toll on Liberty by keeping these politicians out of work by firing the lot of them."

Even IF, you lose your mind and decide to go with what they incorrectly think are assault weapons, can anyone tell me how many people were killed with so-called "assault weapons" in the US compared to handguns?

    Lets break it down:

According to the FBI, the number of deaths in which a rifle was used is typically more than TWENTY TIMES less than the number of homicide deaths in which a handgun was used. (~300/yr from rifles and ~6000/yr from handguns).
-This "rifle" category includes all types of rifles: leverguns, bolt action, semi-auto, and actual assault rifles.
--There is no official breakdown of the "rifle" category, but seeing how we only hear or read about one or two events a year involving the AR-15 or similar rifles, I think it's safe to assume that not all of the approximately 300 deaths a year were caused by what the left incorrectly refers to as "assault rifles". In fact, I would bet that the actual number is somewhere between 20-60. Even at the high end of that range, there are 100 times as many deaths in which a handgun was used.
-(Not as relevant, just interesting: Twice as many people are killed with people's bare hands every year than by the entire "rifle" category.)
-(Not necessary relevant to this specific argument, but still a very important detail: Look at the link below and see how firearm-related deaths are trending downward, along with the total number of homicides over 5 years. It seems the only "weapon" that is trending upward is "narcotics". Don't believe it when you hear people complaining about how violent America has recently become and how prevalent gun violence is, blah blah blah.)

Why isn't the left going after handguns? Do they not appear scary enough? Would they have to sacrifice their own personal security to get rid of handguns? Do they really want to get rid of all guns? ...or just certain guns which threaten them and their end goals? ...just something to think about next time you hear anyone ranting about AR-15s or whatever they want to label as "assault rifles".

My thoughts on this...handguns are #2 on the list. Go after the scary "assault" rifles first. They are easy to convince the public that no one "needs" one. Then, paint the picture you just painted when gun deaths aren't changed. "See, now we need to go after handguns! They are the big culprit now! We've made one step with rifles, let's keep this common sense up!".

I also enjoy using these statistics to point out that the assault rifle argument is pure fear based because rifles are not even a blip on the radar in the death numbers. But we all know what would happen if they talked about going after handguns right off the bat.

+1000. Get the scary rifle's banned first and then move on to handguns.
