    Default Billet Uppers

How challenging is it to swap uppers on billet ARs?

I have a billet 308 AR that I'm looking to build a 260 Rem upper for. Manufacturer doesn't sell stripped uppers for their 308 ARs or even complete uppers.

Billet uppers have a tendency to be a little more artistic than forged versions, but I'm assuming the profile should be reasonably consistent where the upper and lower come together from manufacture to manufacture.

    Am I being too optimistic?

AS long as you have the tools, AND knowledge, it's easy. If you don't have the tools. Buying them will be as much, if not more than paying a competent smith to do it for you.

Okay so the fit between upper and lower is a wild card potentially. Looking at some billet 308 AR uppers, they mention that they only work with their billet lowers and see some reviews where it doesn't feed when mixing manufacturers.

Sounds like building a complete 260 AR or sticking with a bolt gun is the right move.

So, I am assuming you didn't just want to convert the 308 but want the 260 in addition to the 308?

Must have glossed over the different mfg part. That's the biggest issue with the 308 AR platform. No uniformity. PSA upper doesn't work on DPMS lower, same with other upper -lowers. When it comes to BCG, Barrels and lower compatibility.. How it works with a different bbl and BCG??

I guess what I was getting at is if you were just wanting to convert the 308 over to 260 then you would just need to get a new barrel. To the best of my knowledge, there are only two different barrel styles for the AR10 platform. If you are wanting the 260 in addition to the 308 you might just be better off sticking a complete rifle together if the receiver you need is discontinued.

Appears that is the case. It is a Wilson Combat 308 AR.
