I go out to Lamar once a year for pheasant hunting and the town has shrunk a little since the bus plant closed a few years back. If you want to move there you better like wind and a flat landscape.
There is no large medical facility. The nearest large hospital is two hours away but there are a number of retirement centers in the area. Best BBQ I ever had was two miles north of Lamar.
I personally wouldn't want to live there but it may fit you well. Two years back I was hunting in Stonington which is an hour and a half south east of Lamar. The town of Stonington consists of three houses, a church and one corral. A guy in one of the three houses had just moved from Parker to get away. I would go stir crazy in such a place but he loved it.
Personally, I say go for it! If I didn't need to be at least sort of close to a city for work, I would have looked for a very remote property. You almost couldn't pay me enough to ever live in a city again. I don't know how guys in the Denver metro or Colo Spgs areas can stand it....![]()
