Yeah, did that for a year or two there. Sounds great at first but they rarely have enough open lanes in there and there is always someone next to you. Even during the week days when it is not too busy, they close down all the range rooms except for 1 and only open the others when they hit capacity. Just got too frustrating to introduce anyone to it. The first time I took her, she couldn't concentrate due the people flanking us shooting. She refuses to try it again in a setting like that.
Unless you have your own land, or are willing to drive for hours, its tough to go shooting, much less stay proficient or introduce new shooters without them freaking out about the guy in the next lane.

Yeah, I think taking new shooters to the range is great but when they are as crowded as they always are, that is not the environment to teach people something. They literally can not focus and concentrate on it, and frankly that gets a bit dangerous. I used to go twice a week and would see people bring in new shooters as an introduction and they usually get freaked out which makes it hard to enjoy it.
Would be nice if there were enough dedicated ranges around town and designed so other lanes do not interfere with each other. But gun safety isn't really about being safe with fire arms.
The moment someone talks about "gun safety" immediately point out the following (round numbers):
Number of cars in the US: 250 million. Number of accidental vehicle deaths: 35,000
Number of guns in the US: 350 million. Number of accidental firearms deaths <600.
DO NOT allow people to conflate deliberate misuse with accidental deaths (e.g. the latter can be solved by "gun safety" techniques, not the former).
We're do'n a damn fine job in the "gun safety" area, thank you. Especially when compared to those death traps on wheels...

YOU are the first responder. Police, fire and medical are SECOND responders.
When seconds count, the police are mere minutes away...
Gun registration is gun confiscation in slow motion.

Kapa..
Many nights I've been at the shootist and it be empty.. or only a few other people split between the 10 lanes.

Get to know some of us crazy country folk... my friends are free to come by and shoot on my land, just a courtesy call/text required. (I have almost 47 acres, and it's not flat- multiple shooting areas)
of course it would be a real drive for Denver city folk.. same reason I hesitate to make an offer on goods in the metro area.

Yeah, I am hoping to get some land up in the mountains here in the next 5 years or so and then put a little cabin on it with a shooting range like Hickock45 has. Totally off the grid and in the nature.
I don't mind shooting at a busy range until I see people doing bad things. Ever look around at the ceilings and walls at the range? Just image the kind of actions that lead to bullets ending up in those places. I still think it is a shame that there are not numerous places around town like the Cherry Creek shooting center. Last time I was there, it was an hour+ wait. When we left, the waiting area was completely full.
When I win powerball, my mission will be to build free ranges and provide instruction to people so they learn from the beginning how to treat firearms. Yay, gun safety!
