Default My recent excellent experience w/ AAC and lessons learned w/ a QD Can

There has been some bad posts about AAC recently, especially during their move. Just wanted to share my recent experience, I'll be honest I was worried as well about any service needs but they stand behind their warranty.

I have a Rem700, SCAR17, and a 300blk (AR) that share the 762SD can. The can locks up tight on the Rem700 and the 300Blk but it is "loose" on the SCAR17. It was not tightening enough and was inbetween two teeth on the 51t mount.

After what seems like hundreds of iterations of tightening and loosing of the 762SD can on different mounts, it would loosen WITHOUT even depressing the button. FML

Emailed AAC, and they replied within 24 hours. They asked for my mailing info and the SN, and they will create a service ticket. Shortly after I get a reply with a link to schedule a UPS pickup.

    2/5 - UPS picked up 762SD
2/9 - 762SD was back at AAC for latch replacement
2/10 - Inquired about the "wobble' on my 762SD on my SCAR. AAC said they will send a new flash device out to remedy the issue, free of charge.
2/17 - New flash device arrives at my house
2/18 - Get notice that my 762SD will be delivered 2/23
2/23 - 762SD arrives and it is tight on all 3 rifles.

I confirmed with a 762 Geissele suppressor alignment rod that i am "safe". Went to the range today, and here are my results.

Before. Red is SCAR17 without the 762SD can (10 shot left, 5 shot right). Blue is 5 shots with the 762SD aiming at the right target... WTF!!!

After. SCAR17 with 762SD 168gr match no wind 60-65 degress bipod sitting. 10 shot group, called the flier.

Then i grabbed the Rem700 100 yards 168gr match no wind 60-65 degress bipod sitting. 3 shot group. My personal best so far with any rifle in my life.

    What i learned.

    1. AAC still stands behind their warranty
    2. Make sure you depress the racheting button even when tightening the AAC cans
    3. Invest in Geissele suppressor alignment rods
    4. Make sure your cans are tight, not only to prevent baffle strikes but to get consistent accuracy.

Hope that helps others out there.

There's a "fix" (youtube vid) for the 51T lockup issue. In the vid the guy reprofiles the brake. Interesting.
ANYWAY back on topic. Good to hear they handled the issues you have in a timely manner.W/Out any B.S.

There is also another fix that involves the use of an o-ring, someone used the o-ring that wilson supplies with their suppressor and it tightens up like a charm, it is on the old sniperhide forum so takes a little google foo to find. I just started the process of getting a 7.62-SDN and am hoping i wont have issues on my bolt gun or AR-15.

Had the wobble issue on 2 of my rifles using the 51t mount and my m4-2000. I did a ton of reading about how to tweak the mount for a snug fit, but not too tight. I removed just the black finish on the mount at the shoulder. Now the suppressor locks up right after its last click. No wobble, not too tight, and fantastic shooting results. It's also easier to remove after shooting. I'm guessing because gas and gunk isn't blowing back into the threads and latch system. I removed the finish with the finest dremel stone wheel and barely any pressure. Just enough to make the finish look different and kept testing the fit after each 360° pass. Used my 10x readers for good vision and had the dremel in a dremel drill press thing. Figured if I messed it up I could always buy another mount.

    Good to hear.

My 762SDN6 mounts, but doesn't always make the last click. I think I'll have to do a little QD mount shoulder fluff and buff on all mine too. Need to check them against the 556SD can too though as well. Not that I'm running the 30Cal on the 5.56 much any more, but have to have that option.

Here's one vid I found, but I'm not keen on removing all my rockset mounts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn_DZPDh_7M
