Wasn't he sitting in his car when shot?

If that's the case then I would side with those that say he was innocent or at least not the aggressor (in absence of another gun or similar weaponry) as he could have still brought it on via road rage exchanges. I have yet to see that confirmed but if he was shot several times and his wife was shot a couple of times in the leg it would make sense if the shooter was outside the driver door shooting at a downward angle at the husband in the driver's seat. So far I haven't seen that confirmed anywhere though. I feel like there's a lot to know about this story of which we know almost nothing of and yet people are passing judgement all over the place that the guy with the gun is automatically the bad guy which would lend to the decades of Hollywood painting the picture of bad guys have guns & good guys don't. It sure seems to set the tone of stories like this among the media and social media in lieu of facts. Heaven help us if the shooter was white in a community like NOLA.

I think people assume the guy with the gun is the bad guy because he caused a traffic accident, murdered someone, then fled the scene. I agree we can all wait to find out more info. This is a some what high profile case so more info is sure to come.

We know he was the cause of the accident (most states say that if you rear-end someone you're at fault) but we don't know it was murder (yet) as that indicates no possibility of it being in self defense and do we know he fled the scene? I haven't yet heard that confirmed either. I've read he's "in custody and the firearm has been secured" which could mean a number of things to include he was cooperative on the scene and voluntarily tuned over his firearm when it was requested and at the time of the story was at the station for questioning.

Bounty man and known cheat hates guns

Behold the power of the .45, and America's lax mail order gun laws:
"It was a large caliber gun. A .45," Payton told USA Today Sports. "It was designed back during World War I. And this thing just stops people. It will kill someone within four or five seconds after they are struck. You bleed out. After the first shot, he took three more in his back. ... We could go online and get 10 of them and have them shipped to our house tomorrow."
So it looks like I was right with one of my assumptions and wrong with another which was more of a scenario presented to challenge the current media narrative. I was right about him not fleeing as he was on scene and surrendered peacefully and taken into custody as well as surrendering his sidearm. While they haven't confirmed I was wrong about the other part which was what I said regarding him possibly shooting in self defense, I did see a small clip of video and a couple of new facts that lead me to draw a conclusion & that conclusion is that I think Will Smith was NOT killed in self defense. For starters, they said that Will Smith was shot in his back and side with his wife being shot in the legs. They said that cops responded 4min after the call and they found him half in and half out of the car and his wife was still in the car. They flashed a video clip of his Mercedes SUV on a flat bed and there was a telltale dent in the passenger side door... from the inside. It looked like a 45acp size slug maybe had hit it but not with enough force to penetrate. The angle of it along with the other facts lead me to believe that Will Smith was shot while he sat in his car at a downward angle which explains his wife being shot in the leg(s) and the dent in the door. I would have a very difficult time coming up with a scenario where he shot out of self defense given those few facts. The only thing left is the fact that the police found Will Smith half in and half out of his car. The only thing that could thwart that is if they had an altercation outside of the car and maybe Will Smith said he was going to retrieve a firearm from his car and shoot him or something but I dunno how that plays out in court as far as self defense. All I know is that now with more details I'm swaying my 50/50 judgement slightly towards the side that Will Smith was murdered over a simple traffic accident which doesn't help out cause. Especially considering it was a black on black crime so we won't have the race card being played to take the driver's seat in the ensuing media shit storm that will unfold. No no, the focus will be put fully on the firearm... once again.

I used to like the Saints. Now, I will root that they don't win anything for a long time. Screw you, Payton.
New video shows Smith bumped "a hummer" before the crash and took off. Also, Smith had a gun in the car, too (not making any judgment, and possibly irrelevant)
