A police officer and father of two is dead, and another cop is injured after they were shot in San Diego Thursday night.
One suspect has been taken into police custody. Police said they were searching for additional suspects.
The shooting happened after the two officers, both assigned to the gang unit, made a stop around 11 p.m. local time. The officers called for emergency cover and were shot multiple times, police said.
One officer died from gunshot wounds. The second officer, also a husband and father, according to ABC affiliate KGTV, was hospitalized for surgery. San Diego police said this morning that he is expected to survive.
Police did not say if the officers were ambushed.

The train just continues on. You can only secure your own safety so much against ambush type attacks. Obviously they don't know if this was an ambush situation yet but it would be consistent with what we are seeing across the nation.

And people wonder why cops are on edge during any interaction. They don't know what your motives are and have to assume you're out to kill until they know otherwise.

    RIP officers.

It's a challenging career. If you accept the benefits, you accept the risk. Same for those who enroll in the military.

kidicarus13, most of those who accepted the challenge did so in a completely different environment. BLM and the other anti-Western/anti-LEO forces have changed the equation from a job with known risks into one with unknown risks and potential ambushes every day. It's the difference between taking a garrison assignment in CONUS where you're not expected to be on-guard 24/7 versus being on patrol in theater. Ambushes of police like this were simply a rare occurrence a year ago and seem to be a weekly occurrence today -- that's an entirely different operational environment.

I agree it is a sad time in American LE. I could take the risk in good conscience if I had others depending on me being around.

The left wants it that way. Destabilize society and create dependency.
