    Default Older MREs, still good?

Just going through my supplies and found a couple cases of MREs with 2012 inspection dates. The inner dot is still lighter than the outer circle but not by a lot. They've always been stored in the basement so right around 70 degrees.

I'm planning on replacing them but was wondering if these should still be good. I know I could open them and just try them but if they go to someone else, they may want a full case.

Heck, I still have some I was issued in the 80's and there still good.
Just as long as their still sealed and the package doesn't have any bloating you should be fine.

I've been recently eating Desert Storm vintage MREs that I picked up in '95. They're still good, tho I won't eat the dried fruit thingy.

When I was in basic training in 1998 we were eating MRE's from Desert Storm and lived. They didn't taste great though.

I wouldn't hesitate to eat all of them at once.

In Desert Storm those dehydrated fruit packs were deeeeelicious! Bite a chunk, drinks some water! It was like a party in your mouth! Yummmy!

The ones we had in basic- 1985- had the pork patty- basically a hockey puck dehydrated. Took all the hot sauce to make it taste like something.

Some drys may have molded, like the shelf stable bread, but mostly they'll be edible and fine. Candy will probably be stale, too.

You can always make the main entree's into soup. I find the meats tend to become toughened after time in the package.
