I'm sad that he's gone. I enjoyed his music very much, and liked seeing his rise in fame.

And the fact that he died on Christmas makes it even sadder.

Liked him even less when he was caught blowing strangers in piss-smelling public toilets.
    Good riddance.
Pretty much this. I loathed Wham! when they first made it big, didn't care for any of his solo stuff, and really detested him for being a public perv. I don't think the media would have made as much a big deal over him if he hadn't come out publicly as homosexual and his death now would be treated like any other flash-in-the-pan pop star's. Let's face it -- aside from the socio-political aspect of his public homosexuality, he didn't make as much of an impact on music or anything else as David Bowie, Natalie Cole, Alan Rickman, Nancy Reagan, or Joe Garagiola.

I will go this far: I am sorry for his fans because they are saddened. I didn't like his music at any time in his career although I recognized he had an amazing voice. I don't think death before, on, or after a special day any more or less sadder because of the date. If he had died before Christmas, people would be moaning that he didn't get to see one more. If he had died today, people would moan that it WAS his last Christmas.

I'm tempted to ask that there was a difference but Boy George was open in who he was from the start. I never liked either of them but I don't recall any episodes with Boy George over public lewdness.

Your dislike of him doesn't mean he wasn't enormously popular; he had six number one songs and sold over 100 million records. According to Wikipedia (yeah, I know) Natalie Cole sold 30 million. He didn't make an impact with you. I understand that. He was a B-lister in the music world. But trying to minimize what he did by comparing him to Bowie and Reagan is kind of a fallacy.

It's a shame that he had troubles with drugs, with lewd scandals and such. I hate to see public figures that have difficulty handling their business.

My opinion is that someone dying on Christmas is sadder. I imagine his family and friends would feel that way, because the event colors that holiday for them from now on. Not only is it Christmas, but that's also the day they lost their friend/family member. Sadness is not quantifiable, so it's just an opinion.

Boy George has had his share of scandal:

"In January 2009, George was sentenced to 15 months in prison for falsely imprisoning a male escort (Auden Carlsen) by handcuffing him to a wall and beating him with a metal chain. The incident, which happened in April 2007, stemmed from George's belief that Carlsen had attempted to hack into his computer while he was visiting George's flat for a nude photo session.[14] After being released from prison, George resumed his DJ career embarking on a worldwide tour of clubs."

I think everyone knows the difference. Everytime a celebrity dies, people post this with different pictures of celebrities that are similar somehow.
