Wow that is awesome! True professional work there! We just moved into our new house and our kitchen looks like a bunch of funny monkeys got into some materials with elmers glue and slapped it together compared to yours! I'm super impressed!

The stone on the island is Magma Black in a leathered finish. I see so much shiny granite day to day that we decided to go the leathered route. My kids can each eat a PBJ on that table and leave a mess and you don't see a thing. It's great until you stick your hand in a goopy pile of jelly you didn't see.

Neat. I looked up images of more of it online. Some of the pieces look like satellite imagery of earth.

Beautiful. Love the lit frosted glass upper cabinets.
Also, how can you have children and not have a dent in the dish washer door and crusty fingerprints over every square inch of the refrigerator?
That's the most amazing part of your whole kitchen to me.

What did you find to be the most difficult/tedious part of this kitchen build?

Frankly, not much. I guess owning a cabinet and a granite business helps some. I saw a little lull in the shop schedule and just threw my entire cabinet crew at the job. It went so fast even my General Contractor buddies couldn't believe it.

There were two little things, I guess. I don't do electrical work anymore, primarily just because I don't want to. We hired it out to the electricians we've been using for years for customer work and they both took forever and were crazy expensive. That was irritating.

The second thing was picking the backsplash tile. That proved to be far and away the most difficult decision. I'll bet we looked at a hundred tile styles and brought at least 10 home as samples to evaluate. That decision had me genuinely stumped. We narrowed it to 2 or 3 and basically just threw a dart.

I used to take great pride in the fact that my own hands built every piece of furniture and every cabinet in my house. This was the first time I let my employees just do their thing. It was a refreshing change of pace. I personally hung the handles on the doors and ran a few pieces of trim, but that's it.

You hired talented people. That's a sign of a good boss.

Beautiful kitchen. I love the live/rough edge on the countertops. What do you call that?
