The power and cell service was out for 3 hours this morning. I've been shoveling, running the snow thrower and plowing all day. The state highway hasn't been plowed for a while, 18" on the road. Not a good day for a drive in the mountains.
Snow has stopped for now. I measured 30.5" at the house.
We probably have a few hundred hummingbirds now using 10 feeders. The neighbors have 14 feeders out. I installed plastic plates as snow shields and have used hot water to keep the feeder ports clear of ice. It will be a tough night for the little ones. A 4 gram hummer has scant defense from a 10 lb. plop of falling snow.
We watched a young bull moose walk through the yard this morning. He wasn't having any trouble with the snow.

Nothing like what Hummer got, but hopefully this works out for the garden. Pretty much everything has sprouted (planted the Sunday right before the hail), and I don't want to lose anything if I can avoid it.

The very little snow I'm getting is still very heavy and already weighing down the tarps. I'm thinking about going back out there and securing the bottom the same way that I did the top, but I'm just now getting dry and warm. A lot of effort for what will effectively be a one day event.
I would have rather had snow. We got lots of rain, and my driveway is trying to wash out. Piss poor grading when they put it in. Had to run out and dig to allow water to run off, but barely slowed it down.
Need more material and a tractor to grade some of this shit.
Yes, a one day event there but it will likely take a week for all the snow to melt here. It's 8:15 and nearly dark, yet we must have 40 hummingbirds on the feeders. Their neck, back and bellies are bulging with sugar water that hopefully will hold them through the night in torpor.

I woke up @ 0530 with a heavy covering of snow on thecars and yard (more than a dusting, but nithing really measurable). Looked outside @ 0600 and there was an inch on the cars/yard and was sticking to the road/drive. Left for work @ 0630 to 2"+ on the cars, yard and road. Cleaned off the drivers side of my windshield then moved to the passenger side. When I finished the passenger side I already had 1/4" of snow on the drivers side. Driving South through the Springs the snow pretty much disappeared when I got to Barnes Road (East/West road). Roads were slick though and before I got to the next East /West crossroad there was an accident between 2 cars that had just occured and both looked like they'd get totalled.
Always fun driving in weather like this. 1/2 the drivers do well and the other half are split between those going way too slow, some going way too fast and others still tailgating so close that they'll take out multiple cars if something goes bad.
