The only recent shooting I've heard of in NY was the shooting of a terrorist. A good thing in my book. Maybe I missed something?
The truck murders in NY were widely reported as shootings b/c the muzzie was toting 2 bb gun pistols (IIRC) when he exited the vehicle.
