Default Another mechanic question: 2005 Chevy Trailblazer fuel delivery/pressure issue

My SIL's '05 Trailblazer appears to have fuel starvation. He thinks it needs the fuel regulator assembly (or whatever it's called) replaced.

Any solid troubleshooting/diagnosing procedures he can do to verify that this is indeed the issue?

Anyone done this on their Chevy? Is it a DIY at home job? I know you have to drop the tank...

Anyone have an independent or good mechanic recommendation to help us out (is Bobby Z available)???

    TIA!

    What are the current symptoms?

If it is a crank no start, you can have someone crank it while you crawl underneath and hit the fuel tank with your hand or a rubber mallet. If it starts, most likely the fuel pump. You can also crank it and spray some brake/carb clean in the intake to see if it will fire. That year of GM anything was notorious for bad fuel pumps.

The job isn't hard if the tank isn't full...

there should be a valve on the injector assembly that will resemble a tire air valve, they make a gauge that will screw on to it to check pressure on the fuel rail, you can look up what this pressure should be for you MMY (make Model Year) and with the key on but not started it should read X psi this will let you know one of two things, Your fuel pump is working and pressure is good or pressure is low and the Fuel pressure regulator is bad if you get nothing at all look at fuel filter and or fuel pump

I'd do an internet search and see if you can find other people with similar symptoms on the same vehicle. I thought the fuel pump went out on my Dodge, but when I looked it up, found out that it was a very common problem with the electronics in certain Dodge vehicles. I would have been furious to have spent the time to drop my tank and replace the fuel pump only to find out that it could have been fixed for $30 and some electrical tape.

What is the full complaint? Running rough does it stall etc and is there a check engine light on?

Do what walker2970 said and get the fuel pressure gauge tester kit. Test the fuel pressure at the Schrader valve and tell us what pressure you get.

Hard to start, stalls, acts like a car does when the engine isn't getting fuel...

I will have him check the pressure using that tool. Thx!!

    Sorry I'm late..
Is there a check engine light on? If there is you can pull a code and that can point you in the right direction.
But yea like the guys said, sounds like a fuel pump going. Have to put a gauge on the valve to be sure. It should be putting out around 50 to 60 psi.
I'm booked solid for a wile( weekends too) But if I get a chance I'll swing over and run some tests on it.
Does it even run enough that you can bring it over to my shop?
Pm me your number again and I'll give you a call when I can.
