Default Dicks and Walmart to stop selling guns and ammo to people under 21

Just heard Dicks and Walmart to stop selling guns and ammo to people under 21 yrs old. Is this even legal? Is that not age discrimination?

It is, but who's going after them for it? The MSM is against us, so they will praise Wally and Dick's for it.

Too bad they don't ask for I.D. when using a credit card for under $25 - 50 purchases. What a scam that is

    Yeah...that's a smart move. If I was a stockholder I'd be pissed:

Dick’s Sporting Goods announced on Monday it will destroy all of the unsold firearms it pulled off store shelves in February after the deadly Parkland school shooting.

The sports retailer decided to destroy the assault-style rifles instead of returning them to the manufacturer, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported. On Feb. 28, 2018, the Pittsburgh-based company announced it would immediately stop selling assault-style rifles and ban the sale of all guns to anyone under 21. It was not immediately clear how many firearms will be destroyed.

“We are in the process of destroying all firearms and accessories that are no longer for sale as a result of our February 28th policy change,” a spokesperson from Dick’s Sporting Goods told the media outlet. “We are destroying the firearms in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations.”

How many guns are we talking about?

The only stores were they sold AR style weapons were the 35 Field and Stream locations. Let's say the each store had 3- 5 units, the warehouse probably had another 50.

My guess is under 200 guns in limbo.

Neither federal nor state law prohibits age discrimination.

State law: CRS C.R.S. 24-34-601 states that:

    (a) It is a discriminatory practice and unlawful for a person, directly or indirectly, to refuse, withhold from, or deny to an individual or a group, because of disability, race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, or ancestry, the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations of a place of public accommodation

Federal law is Title II of the Civil Rights Act, which states that

SEC. 201. (a) All persons shall be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, and privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation, as defined in this section, without discrimination or segregation on the ground of race, color, religion, or national origin.
    So, 100% legal.

Age discrimination is only illegal in the context of employment (and possibly housing - honestly I haven't looked that up so I don't know.) But if I was to tell some old gay couple that I wasn't going to make them a wedding cake because I don't make cakes for old people, that would be legal.

Not Colorado state law, but other states DO have prohibition on age discrimination, hence why they're being sued in those states.

And my guess is that if those suits go anywhere the most likely result is that Dicks and Wal Mart will simply stop selling firearms in those states.

And honestly I don't know that that would be a bad thing. I know there are lots of smaller towns or cities where the stocking gun dealers have all but been put out of business by wal mart. When I lived in Laramie in the early 2000's, for a while there was only one stocking gun dealer other than Wal-Mart and that was the West Laramie Fly Store. There were FFL's in town that could receive or order guns, but if you wanted to go and actually look at something and buy it, Wal Mart or West Laramie were your only choices.

I'll bet it would be very easy for either Dicks or Wal Mart to simply discontinue gun sales in contentious states because I don't think they make that much money off of them.

    Store name is appropriate.
