It is all exactly as you described (tape and rust), so I'm not sure why I was so surprised, but I was.

Damn, some of you guys sure run hot. I have leather holsters I've worn 12-15 hours daily for YEARS that don't show any signs of sweat.

Just for funsies, here is my M&P Shield that I've been carrying for about a year in my HBARLeatherneck kydex IWB holster. No moisture issues.

Irvings issues are the reason I don't carry IWB. Quality leather holsters stained and crusty in less than a month. High amounts of salt and acids when sweat and I sweat alot.

I never left pistol in holster when took it off at night and had to wipe/oil daily in summer.

My carry gun stays much cleaner carrying OWB even in dusty environments I live and work in.

I did absolutely no research as my Shield is rust free. I assumed it would have been blacken stainless like the full sized ones. I know stainless is actually not stainless, but they know where these guns might live.

I think the most important thing that we are all overlooking is that guns make Luigi moist.....

Leather tanning materials can exude salts that greatly increase corrosion. Try a saddle soap, softens, preserves and cleans the leather.

No kidding. I always keep an undershirt between my skin and my holster, but even when i'm drenched in sweat, it doesn't permanently discolor my holster.

Treating rust from Golf clubs are so much easier than treating rust from a firearm. lol

Yeah, leather backing IWB holster. it doesn't matter of pH is 7 or 4.5, it will get a rust from anyone.
