They aren't cheap!
If you've got a clone, the POF mags and MKE mags work great. The asian mags (KCI and ATI) aren't as good...
Honestly, I've had more problems with factory HK mags...but I usually buy used ones so they typically will need the spring replaced.
I've got an MKE and a POF but not a real HK so my opinion is based only on the clones...
But for a good balance of price vs reliability, I like the POF's.
As for where to get them cheaply...good luck. No online dealers will ship to CO.
TI've had terrible luck with the "cheap" ones. he only brand I ever had was ATI I believe and I got rid of that long ago. I've had good luck with both older and new HK mags. Though unused most of my new ones aren't so new anymore.

Also have had bad luck with the KCI mags, but the 15 round HK have been pretty good with just a few FTF(YMMV). Mines is a clone as well.
Have used Arms Unlimited a few times.

Cheap/non-contract MP5 mags generally suck. They are a waste of money.
Get POF or MKE/Zenith if you want in spec contract mags for a "fair" price. Or bend over and shell out the dollars for HK mags. Other than the name stamp, I can't tell a difference in performance between my HK, POF and MKE mags. If I had to be picky, I'd say the HK welds look slightly cleaner but maybe that's because I want them to look better due to the price I paid for them.
I was thinking about the 15 round magazines to stay retarded. I did buy 2 more from the gun show and while I did bargain the guy down I paid a pretty penny for them. There is a MP5 guy there that when I said MP5 he came out of the woodwork from the opposite side of the show to give advice on the magazines. I ran into him at the gun range and he had his legal mp5 Navy version with him that day. He let me shoot a few mags through it and even offer to sell the gun for 10k. I should have bought it and doubled my investment by now. Oh well. I didn't have 10k anyway. But its his fault that I like them so much. I did buy the PTR 9ct with a threaded barrel and it will hold my can so aside from not being made with a fun switch and being a pistol and not SBR its perfect with a brace and should serve me well for years of range trips. I was just thinking I should have a few more mags. Reloading sucks and it gets me out of the zone on range. 10 magazines per gun is usually the minimum I have found based on no evidence at all. So 6 more to go and that would be another $600 down the MP5 hole. Who ever designed this gun must have invented crack too. He knows what will get people hooked for life.

I feel for you DOC. I wish I had never shot one. Why do I even like that old heavy thing? How can it be this much fun? Dated design, poor ergonomics, awful trigger, expensive, yet I cannot live without one! I think it less like a rabbit hole and more like a black hole, because you will never escape. Ther are a couple forum members and "friends" that that gave me my fist hit off the MP5 crack-pipe and might have some valuable info in your quest. PM me and I can let you know who they are.
Yippee Ki Yah!
If your post count is higher than your round count, you are a troll.
+1 to the MP5 crack pipe addiction. My wife likes them even more than I do too!
