Thanks, Bear. I played trumpet for a number of years and have no idea how I could play Taps with something in my eye and a quivering lip if it was for someone I knew.

Not easy, I've learned to put all my "feelers" in my "nothing drawer" in my head when I perform certain songs. TAPs is by far the hardest tune for a brass person to play, especially if they know the significance of it and have several family members in or retired from the military.

My father has played the trumpet since high school, he recently has expressed interest in picking up a nice bugle so he can play TAPs at funerals. Good on you Bear, for doing this.

Have him check out local BSA (Boy Scouts) troops. Sometimes they can get them (or know where) relatively cheap for you... But you don't have to have a bugle, a regular trumpet works just as well (if not better for newbies). Also have him sign up with BAA (Buglers Across America) as they are always looking for people to play TAPs around larger cities, etc. If you need anyhelp, send me a PM.

    Thanks

Thank you for the info Bear, I will pass it on to him. I think BAA is who he was looking at joining, but I couldn't remember the name.
