Denver traffic has increased over the 14 years we’ve been here. It still is pretty easy compared to the Boston-DC megalopolis or the total cluster that is LA. At least in Denver, Dallas, or Houston you can get off the highway and take surface roads or drive during the off-rush time.

Never understood why it is called “rush hour.” No one gets to go fast enough to appear like they are in a rush and most large cities have hours of traffic in the morning, afternoon, and evening. “Crawl hours” seems to be more appropriate.

I try to get a glimpse of I 25 before committing to entry. If I don’t enter or have to bail after entering, at least there are a half dozen parallel roads going in the general direction I am going.

Denver isn’t that bad when compared to Seattle and especially Honolulu, Hawaii.

Fortunately I have since moved to working an early day shift, therefore I leave my house at around 0400 and the traffic is minimal (aside from the morons doing 90+ mph on I-70). Of course, I remember a time when rush hour used to be just that. Now, you can't drive anywhere between 0800 - 1800 hours without this city being congested on the roadways. Denver had been growing vastly since I moved here in 1995, since the marijuana laws were passed people have flooded Denver and now the streets and highways can't keep up with the growth. Typical major metropolis, non-stop construction until the end of time.

Denver traffic was a whole lot nicer when there was only 1.5 million people living in the whole state...When I was traveling a bunch in the late 80s, I could count on getting from Lakewood to Stapleton International Airport in 25 minutes, day or night, arriving 30 minutes before my flight, and still having time to take a whiz before boarding the plane (with my pocket knife firmly in my pocket).

Stop complaining guys. Gov (well, the public-private [select Dim companies] partnership) is going to save us by making us pay tolls on the roads we've already paid to build on infrastructure many of us have been paying on for decades.

May 21, 2018 - Plenary Roads Denver requests transition to dynamic pricing to optimize travel times revenue for US 36 and I-25 Central Express Lanes

    [snip]

As part of the request to move to dynamic pricing to respond to traffic conditions, PRD has asked the HPTE board to allow for the flexibility up to the current maximum rate for one way from Boulder to Denver, and from Denver to Boulder. The current maximum rates for ExpressToll account and pass users is $15.76 and $23.64 for License Plate Toll (LPT).
