    Ah, but that incident just demonstrated the total ignorance in the media and now in the education system. Quayle DIDN'T misspell but he DID get called on it. "P-o-t-a-t-o-e" is and has been and acceptable spelling, particularly in his area of the country. What Quayle got wrong was in "correcting" the student who spelled it the more common way, "p-o-t-a-t-o". The mass media -- like you -- jumped on him for misspelling the word and laughing about his ignorance while displaying their own ignorance.
