I see a lot of people basing their asking price for items (guns and cars mostly) based on what they see posted on the auction sites or craigslist. Don't get me wrong, that is a great way to base price...if you look at the items with bids and see what the items are actually selling at.

Instead I am seeing people basing their asking price on sale postings with higher-than-new retail cost, with no bids, that have cycled 20 or 30 times on the site, and will never sell. People can ask any amount they want to, it doesn't mean that's what the item is worth.

Example: I could go to gunbroker and post for sale a beat up 1905 S&W .38 for $2000. It will never get a bid, but guaranteed someone on one of the forums sees it and thinks their S&W is worth 2 grand too. "Cause that's the prices on gunbroker"
