Durango Area

Hey all,
New to the site, not new to shooting but new to ar15's. HAve my first build come up. Starting out simple with a psa15

Im near Durango. USed to live in AZ. I do miss the less oppressive gun culture there.
Oh well, CO makes up for it with less heat and less city life.

I don’t know if there’s a good “kit”. There are plenty of good tools out there. Some better than others at what they do. My “kit” is comprised of stuff from different vendors.

Honestly, unless you plan on assembling everything yourself (barrel, etc.) you really don’t need much in the way of tooling to just assemble the lower and slap an upper on it.

Thanks. Yeah, I am 'just' putting the lower together and slapping the upper on it. I'll probably manage with the tools I have.

I used a single Allen wrench as a punch to assemble my lower. Filling out a job application is more tedious and takes longer than putting together a lower.

When assembling a lower (at least for your first few times), I suggest the most important tool is a pillowcase... that way, when that little spring goes SPROING! and flies away, you won't be searching for it in a corner or under furniture, it'll be sitting in the pillowcase you were working in.

I've got a barrel wrench multi-tool that is handy if you want to change barrels on an upper, and a pin punch set would be needed for most gas block pins. An upper action block also handy if you're assembling/disassembling uppers.

Welcome. I am sure the pillow bunch will run out of feathers soon. The good thing is even starting from a pile of parts the AR has to be the most friendly weapon to build.

Hello and welcome!
When I do a complete teardown I use a plastic tub instead of a pillow. Haven't lost a spring yet.
