Yes and yes. How do you not put sex ed in the same category of life skills as creating a budget, cooking, or changing a tire? It's the same thing and if any kids can't do those things the fault lies more on parents than it does schools. What was your public school experience? I bet 98% of the members here went to public schools, yet some how they were able to arrive at their social beliefs that fall in line with the board.
That said, I read the summary of the bill and it is a stupid bill and should not exist. FAR too much emphasis is being placed on potentially stereotyped "classes" of people. It'd be stupid to not teach that homosexual relationships exist, but the population is so small that not much more than a mention should be necessary. If there are homosexual kids in class that have specific questions, then maybe they can talk to a counselor or something. General sex education is what is important, especially at young ages. I doubt that k-12 schools have much of a capacity to teach about managing relationships, but that might be beyond what should be a necessary class anyway. Just like with other subjects, extracurricular questions can be investigated on the students own time, or if younger they can ask their parents. Parents should be taking the primary role in education and finessing or outright correcting the subjects their kids learn at school that they don't agree with. Aren't you all doing that with your kids?
As far as not knowing how to change a tire, balance a budget, or cook. Every high school I'm aware of has cooking classes. Tire changing can be learned in a 3 minute YouTube video and doesn't itself justify a class. Auto shop would be an extra class just like cooking. I agree that things like balancing a budget are important. Recently we were looking at the next school for our kids to go to and I was asking the teacher about such real world finance classes. She said they have a class for kids who are old enough to have jobs where they teach them to do their taxes. That wasn't at my high school and it should have been.
