Quite a thread on Colt Forum about issues with them as well at 1911addicts. Colt Forum even got taken in by an imposter claiming to be a Colt employee outlining the process to send them back and how Colt was working on fixing the damaged crowns and defective action. What a mess. As big a revolver guy as I am I would wait awhile-but I prefer older Smiths and they're still affordable LOL.

No surprise that the Colt revolver lost timing. Unfortunately it was in the past and continues to be an issue is their design. They are pretty guns, but it is a Sunday BBQ gun to take out a and show your buddies not used and abused. Heck if time has shown us anything, just put it away and because it has the Colt name it will be worth more later when they discontinue them again and some shmoe will give you lots of money for it because of the label... Tier 1 ya know.
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.

That's me as well. I like the pre-Saf-T-Hammer S&Ws. I can't stand the zit on the side of the newer revolvers. I've also had the lock engage during use on my 1st wife's Lady Smith.

Jerry Miculek has a video going over medium frame revolvers and shoots and discusses the older Python and Ruger Speed Six. He discusses why he likes the action of the S&W and how they're so much easier to do a trigger job on since you can see all of the parts interacting with the side plate off.

I have many more S&W than Colt, but this old Python is still one of my favorites. Let a classic stay a classic.

Here's a favorable review involving Ken Hackathorn:

According to Hackathorn, the Python was favored by bullseye shooters that shoot single-action. Being powered by a single spring, the Python is easier to cock with your thumb.

Here's just one of the many posts about problems with the new Python:
    https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/...e-colt-python/

From reading what the other owners have said on those other forums the issues seem to be mostly 2:
failure to rotate the cylinder (regardless of ammo used)
    battered barrel crowns

In my book not acceptable for a $1500 +- firearm. Perhaps Colt rushed them to market too quickly? Who knows. I hope the returned guns are fixed and that new ones don't exhibit the same problems. Years ago I had a 4" (bought in 1978) and really liked it, was damn accurate but I just prefer Smiths so I sold it back then.

I prefer Smiths too, but I will likely pick up a new Python when the 4.25 inch barrel models are released. I sold a beautiful 1980s python because it was too pretty to shoot and they have a reputation for shooting loose under heavy use. It had more value as a collector than a working gun so I sold it off. The new pythons have addressed these issues somewhat with a slightly beefier frame and a simplified lock work that should t shoot out of time as quickly. I hope they work out the bugs because I’d like a python that I can shoot a bunch and not worry about collector value.
