That pill's a bit hard to swallow. Looks like it's made for an elephant, wondering how LEO swaller'ed that down. Must've crushed it up and snorted that line without a second thought.

Almost everyone comes up with a story when they first get in front of an investigator. So is this an accident, or is he just explaining how his son is dead, with signs of physical struggle on the corpse (wrestling), and both he and his son suffered a GSW to the head, if the article is read correctly?

Not impossible, but hard to swallow. I'd love to see video of the "interview" of the dad. E.g. is he subtly concerned and trying to round-about-explain that LEO will notice signs of physical struggle... or...

In nearly every case of "kid is shot with parent's gun" that I've come across, if you run a search on the name of the parent, they're almost invariably a dirtbag with a criminal history.

Not to say that reduces the tragedy of this situation, but it seems like dirtbags do stupid shit like leave guns around where kids can find them.

That's kind of what I believe here - personal history, who knows, but there's a chance a handgun was accessable to a 4YO and "dad" doesn't want to catch the blame... and in his grief probably wants to sue somebody. It would make a little more sense how there's a GSW to the head of them both if the 4YO had the weapon, which is what makes me doubt the original story the most. Mathmatical combination of a) Gun that can accidentally discharge + b) accidentally discharges from a low-drop (how far can it REALLY fall while wrestling) and c) lands in a place where it can strike both persons with a GSW to the head in a single round is gotta be less than powerball odds even if you kept trying over and over.

Grappling (standing) it shouldn't drop where it can get both in the head from a small-back carry. Wrestling on the ground, htf does it accidentally discharge from a drop of what, a foot at the most? Especially since it's wrestling a 4yo.
