Check your furnace filter as well if you have central air.

I did a home inspection today and the filter was filthy, although I have no idea the last time it was replaced.

I replace my furnace filter every 3 months. I wait until Costco does their annual sale on them and stock up on HEPA filters.
I've been going through them like crazy with the smoke from the wild fires on my ghetto portable air filter (20" box fan with a hepa filter taped on to it). Thing is dark grey after 2 weeks of running it inside.

You would not believe how many brand new air filter for heater/ac system I have at home.

I pick up those sealed 3M high end purple ones at garage sale for ~$1ea.

Meant to reply to this months ago - changed out the one in my Silverado in October, it was nasty. But then, I changed out the two in the wife's Kia Sorento, and holy shit! I'd never seen anything like them! They looked like they'd been sprayed down with MC chain lube, then had a vacuum bag dumped on them, then repeated a couple more times! Unreal.

I showed them to the wife and she was appalled - especially when I told her that her smoking was the most likely cause. Amazingly, her heater and AC actually blows air now.....hell, they'd only been in there since 2007.

Just for fun, here is a shot of the filters from two of our type 6 engines from 3 days of initial attack on a large wildfire last year.

I have a Dodge, a Mercury and a Chevy; none of them have a cabin filter.

Thanks for the poke. My previous Expedition had one.

Just pulled the two cabin air filters of my Frontier (used, but new to me). I'm sure they're original, meaning they're a decade old.... I've seen worse, but not in any of my own cars before. Thanks for the nudge.
