Comprehensive means something else with respect to insurance policies, and the "comp" part does not cover this kind of accident. I've covered off-roading accidents and had my own covered as well. I'm sure some carriers have policy exclusions for off road stuff.

These are forrest service and county roads and covered by insurance. Off road use is prohibited in many areas across the state.

If I ever get out of mine, I turn it off, place in gear and parking brake engaged. And steer it uphill if it happens to roll.

Then before getting out, get off the brake pedal to make sure parking brake us engaged.

Yep! The mountain doesn't care what safety features or how badass you vehicle is.

WHANG! That's the word that happens when you say WHOA! and DANG! at the same time. When I saw the title I suspected Black Bear Pass was involved. That's an incredible road and some incredible mountains. I was surprised when it happened where it did. It seems a lot of "accidents" occur after the "scary" part when people get complacent. I wish everybody a full and speedy recovery.

The roll over from a few years ago happened because the guy was scared of the edge, so he went too far away from the drop off. His driver tires climbed the inside edge and he rolled over anyway. Seems like right in the middle is the safest bet on a pass like that.

About 15 yrs ago, I came pretty damn close to rolling off one of the switchbacks heading up to SantaFe Peak....

Had been up many times previously, but that time the trail/road started disintegrating underneath me. Trying to get back on solid ground made it worse, and was just getting ready to bail as it started to tip (only occupant, and no doors on)...

Fortunately, someone else (driver from other vehicle) jumped on my front bumper and provided enough weight to counterbalance and keep it from going over. Recovery involved tow-straps to vehicles in front and behind, and getting "yanked" back to stable ground...(then preemptively did the same thing to higher jeep to help traverse the bad spot coming down)...

It was a manual transmission. The driver said he put it in neutral and set the parking brake.
