I am mostly a walleye / Mack guy. As mentioned above, I like a deep v. I wouldn't go shorter than 16', because of the Colorado wind.

Things I would look for, depending on your price range.
    Rod storage
Upgraded electronics with front and drivers seat sonar. I prefer lowrance.
    A good electric motor
A live well that doesn't leak.
Near max HP for the rated boat/motor combo.

If buying from a private seller, check the lower unit for water and ask when the impeller was last changed.

Also, if you are willing to drive there are a ton of boats in Minnesota and Wisconsin which translates to a ton of cheap used boats.

Small Boston Whaler. Will not sink. Will retain value if you don't over pay. Light enough to be towed by most US vehicles. It is a tri-hull and is stable when standing up, fighting fish.

I have 17ft Boston Whaler looks like this with Bimini top. Top is nice for getting out of the sun. Link below is for visual idea only.

I don’t know, the operating costs on an aluminum outboard boat are pretty low. Just repack the trailer bearings every year and learn How to change the fluids in the outboard and that thing should go decades with minimal input. Fiberglass I/O ski boats on the other hand..

Unless your a Bass only fisherman, I'd look at a Lowe Deep V.

You getting free advice from a Hobie Kayak owner who used to fish from a sail boat.
