    Default Colorado Senate Bill 21-182

Colorado Senate is pushing to pass senate bill 21-182 and Governor Polis is backing the bill. It basic says kids can't be charged or arrested for any misdemeanor crimes on school grounds, buses, or school sponsored events. Those crimes include assault, unlawful sexual contact, drug possession which is any drug under 2grams such as meth and heroin, false imprisonment, menacing, disorderly conduct, etc

This is GREAT way to keep our kids and schools safe!!!!!

I'm not sure how I feel about all this. Fist fighting seems like it could be assault, and as long as kids aren't curb stomping each other at school, it seems reasonable that they wouldn't be arrested. Having a daughter, the thought of kids getting away with unwanted sexual contact doesn't feel right, but they do anyway, and have forever. Going down the list, I'm not sure how productive it would be to arrest kids for disorderly conduct either.

I'm thinking about how any of these crimes would manifest themselves in society with adults and most scenarios could be dreamed up as happening at a bar. Should we have more strict rules at school for minors than we do adults?

The other hand though, is you have to remember the modern school environment leaves teachers and admin entirely powerless to use reasonable measures to control their classroom. When they have real disrupting kids, they sometimes have to call LEO. Just like the crimeorado bill, if LEO is also powerless and cant arrest them...and they know it... That 1/2 of 1% of kids is even more empowered to fully release their inner sociopath at school. And teachers are even more subjugated by it.

Oh I understand. I haven't declared a position on this, because I just don't know what the answer is.

While i understand your questioning some of this bill. Remember this is how the parkland shooter was able to fly under the radar. OH no, there's no issues in our school. Yes crap liek this has been going on for a long time.

However by making it known, there's little, or no, repercussion for any thing. Might as well hand out, The Lord of the Flies, for the student handbook.

I'm not sure I have an issue with higher behavior standards for kids at school than adults in the general population.

Not just arrest but even issue a ticket no enforcement action at all. So a kid can just walk up to a teach or another student an knock them on they bum and no criminal action unless it results in serious bodily injury. The consequences of this bill are huge. There is also a bill that will not allow LEO to contact the parent of a juvenile who is caught with alcohol or Marijuana on their first offense the funny thing is who is going to track how many times they are contacted. Most LEO don't issues citations on this but notify parents instead

Fist fighting is considered disorderly conduct. Assault is usually one sided. Curb stomping will happen as long as there is no serious bodily injury no charges

The kids that get away with shit in school grow up to be adults that expect to be able to get away with whatever they want to do.

It's sounding worse and worse. I'm not surprised.
